It's showtime!

The Singapore Pavilion will house 50 local broadcasting technology pioneers, say MDA officials.

SINGAPORE, 10 JUNE 2008—BroadcastAsia 2008, which will be held June 17-20, 2008 concurrently with CommunicAsia2008 at the Singapore Expo, promises to be one of the world’s largest broadcast and digital media showcases. And the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore is going to make sure of that, with the 1,200-square metre Singapore pavilion it is seeing to setting up at the show.

Expected to house about 50 local digital broadcasting technology vendors, the Singapore Pavilion, the MDA says, will be a platform for showcasing pioneering technologies, digital broadcasting applications and services, as well as experimental interactive and digital media projects.

Among the pioneering technologies is a digital audio broadcast conditional access system by local radio broadcasting service provider Rediffusion. Rediffusion claims that the technology is the first of its kind in the world. Two-way interactive broadcasting services in taxis by QMax and PGK are also in store.

“The Singapore Pavilion captures MDA’s vision to grow a vibrant media hub and create a conducive environment for the test bedding of innovative applications, services and technologies,” says Dr Christopher Chia, CEO of MDA.

“Media is getting more pervasive and reaching consumers in a more personal manner,” says Michael Yap, MDA’s deputy CEO. “Realistic three dimensional media have also emerged.”
