The Malaysian government has declared an integrated mixed-used Kuala Lumpur development called Mid Valley City, as an MSC (Multimedia Supercorridor) Cybercentre.
According to the developer IGB Corporation Berhad director, Tan Lei Cheng, this move will support the growth of MSC Malaysia status companies and enhance Mid Valley City as an ideal fibre-enabled commercial hub.
Tan said Mid Valley City received the scroll, symbolising the recognition of MSC Malaysia Cybercentre status, from Malaysia’s prime minister Dato’Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, at the recently concluded 20th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council Meeting on 11 September 2008.
Mid Valley City (www.mvc.com.my) is conceived to be an alternative city centre with a self-contained environment and superb connectivity to both visitors and occupants.
MSC Malaysia is a national initiative spearheaded by the Malaysian government to promote both the national ICT industry and provide a test-bed for the global ICT industry.
MSC companies closer to customers
Mid Valley City Gardens chief executive officer Antony Barragry said: “The MSC Malaysia Cybercentre status conferred to Mid Valley City will assist MSC Malaysia Status companies remain closer to their customers, as many businesses are located in the city centre and adjacent areas in the Klang Valley.”
He said that the Garden Towers (North and South) at the Mid Valley City are the designated premises to house the MSC Malaysia Status companies.
“The strategic location of Mid Valley City means the master development can now support the MSC Malaysia ICT development demand,” added IGB’s Tan. “Mid Valley City is committed to playing a significant role to help the government achieve its target of a digitally-enabled Malaysia by 2020.”
Designed from ground up as wired city
Barragry said that Mid Valley City has been designed from the ground up to be a wired city, where tenants and customers can enjoy a rich on-line experience. All building blocks are provided with high-speed optic fibre backbone cabling and Category 5E cabling to each unit, where tenants can cruise the internet at broadband speeds of up to one gigabit.
“Together with technology partners, Macro Lynx Sdn Bhd, the infrastructure manager and service provider for Mid Valley City and 3Com, which is the infrastructure enabler, the mixed used development is able to provide world-class scalable services to industries and businesses in a fast globalising world,” he said.
Government agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) chief executive officer Dato’ Badlisham Ghazali, said: “MSC Malaysia is moving forward with an expansion on focus areas, acknowledging ICT as an enabler of Government, businesses and society, so Malaysians can benefit more from the growth of ICT in this country.
Badlisham said that the conferment of MSC Malaysia Cybercentre Status to Mid Valley City is in line with the MSC Malaysia National Rollout plan. “It is our hope that the businesses will now be able to benefit from the improved infra and info structure which we hope will then catalyze wealth creation, enhancing attractiveness as FDI destination and creating jobs for Malaysians.”
