Security solutions firm Kaspersky Lab has entered the Malaysia Book of Records for the highest number of devices scanned for viruses, performed during the PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (31 July–2 August).

Kaspersky Lab Southeast Asia managing director, Gun Suk Ling, said 1,157 devices, which included thumb drives, hard drives and laptops, were scanned for viruses at the company’s ‘Kung Fu’ Virus Lab, set up during the PIKOM [Malaysia’s national ICT industry association] PC Fair.

Gun said the activity was officiated by the minister of housing and local government, Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha, who was the first participant to scan a device, followed by PIKOM chairman, David Wong, and chairman of the Association of Backpackers Malaysia (ABM), Datuk Dr Wong Sai Hou.

“I would like to thank our honourable guests for officiating the launch and the Malaysian public as well as Kaspersky’s fans and friends for their support and enthusiasm. We hope to see you again, should we decide to break our own record in the future,” she said, as she accepted a certificate from the Malaysia Book of Records founder, Datuk Danny Ooi.

“Kaspersky is the only security firm in Malaysia to have undertaken this feat,” added Gun. “Kaspersky Lab could not have set the record if it hadn’t garnered support from the crowds of people who participated and visited the Kaspersky ‘Kung Fu’ Virus Lab.”
