Global Leaders Continue to Define the ICT Industry


Honourees of the MIS Asia Strategic 100 maintain their market strength, boost their product lines and help more customers across the world.

SINGAPORE, DECEMBER 5, 2012 - As usual, global brands feature prominently in this year’s edition of the MIS Asia Strategic 100, the region’s definitive index of the most influential enterprise information and communication technology (ICT) vendors.

Notable industry giants–such as Accenture, Cisco Systems, Dell, EMC, Ernst & Young, Fujitsu, Fuji Xerox, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP AG, Symantec and Tata Consultancy Services–and Asian powerhouses–including China Mobile, China Telecom, Kingdee International Software Group, NCS, SingTel and Telekom Malaysia–entered the annals of ICT industry history as documented by the region’s foremost authority on business technology deployment MIS Asia when they made it onto the main Global 75 and Regional 20 indices of the Strategic 100 again.

The list of repeat honourees also includes the likes of specialised firms such as Amazon Web Services, Blue Coat Systems, Brocade Communications, Check Point Software Technologies, Citrix, Fortinet, Juniper Networks, NCR, Network Box, Pacnet, PCCW Solutions, Polycom, Qlik Technologies, Salesforce.com, SAS Institute, TIBCO Software and VMWare.

In addition, five companies with technologies or business models that appear to be changing the world have been named in the Rising Stars category: Dropbox, Movideo, Open Solutions, Spotify and Zynga

Mark Hobson, Asia Regional Manager, Fairfax Business Media, the publisher of MIS Asia, said that he was impressed by how strong the companies listed on the Strategic 100 index have gone beyond just maintaining their positions in the ICT business.

“Indeed, I rather admire their drive to grow in order to deliver more to their customers, and their ingenuity to innovate and create more value for their customers, their partners and ultimately stakeholders in their respective organisations,” he said. “As a result, I believe, the ICT industry is all the better for their efforts and contributions to date.”

All honourees have been invited to a special event hosted by MIS Asia at Fern & Kiwi—Bar and Eatery at Clarke Quay in Singapore, where their achievements through the past year will be feted between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. They will be handed their Strategic 100 certificates at the event, during which they will also be treated to cocktails, finger food and light conversation—our way of saying thanks to them for a job well done in 2012.

THE EVALUATION

The 2012 Strategic 100 select panel of judges include: Hood Abu Bakar, General Manager, Information Communication Technology Division, MISC; Dane Anderson, Vice President, Research Director & Region Manager, Forrester Research; Chu Hong Keong, CIO, HSBC Bank Malaysia; Michael Leung, Senior Vice President and CIO, China Construction Bank (Asia); Paolo Miranda, Deputy Director (Technology Solutions), Corporate Development, National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre, Singapore; and, Associate Professor Daniel Tan Tiong Hock, Director, Centre for Educational Development, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

They evaluated all nominated organisations based on the following criteria: IT industry leadership; product and service innovation; strategic role/s played in the global enterprise IT market; contribution/s made to IT industry development; and, financial performance in the past fiscal year.

They then selected those with the highest scores for placement in the categories: Global 75 (for those with a global footprint); Regional 20 (for those whose businesses are clearly dominant in Asia); and Rising Stars (for the top 5 companies seen to be driving world changing technology developments and deployments).
