HONG KONG, 6 FEBRUARY 2009 – UK-based Cable & Wireless has invested US$200 million in its global network infrastructure in Asia over the last two years.
In the last two years, the Europe, Asia & US business unit of the enterprise and carrier solutions provider has invested in key Asian markets, including India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan.
Network upgrade for India
Cable & Wireless’ next-generation Multi-Service Platform (MSP) was targeted to drive growth across the region. The MSP enabled Cable & Wireless to deliver IP and ethernet-based solutions and value-added communications applications for India in 2009.
The US$30 million investment of Cable & Wireless’ MSP network would form part of the company’s backbone, allowing connectivity to its global network across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America.
Additionally, Cable & Wireless invested US$50 million into a new cable system—the Europe India Gateway Consortium, which is expected to build greater capacity into India from Europe.
The company has also invested into a backhaul network in Singapore and Hong Kong as well as new points of presence in Japan and Vietnam. The company has extended its world-class network in region via network-to-network interface agreements with China Telecom and Telekom Malaysia.
