KUALA LUMPUR, 17 APRIL 2009 -- Malaysian hosts to the region’s first international outsourcing summit, the Asia Pacific Outsourcing Summit (APOS), have called for a strong Malaysian representation from business leaders.
Representatives from Outsourcing Malaysia (OM), a chapter of the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM), expect good attendance from the Asian business fraternity including China, India, the Middle East, and ASEAN countries at APOS, to be held on 12-13 May at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
“Malaysia was chosen by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals [IAOP] to host the region’s first conference, which is part of a world summit series,” said PIKOM chairman David Wong Nan Fay. “The event includes an extensive programme of thought leadership content around multiple tracks, presentations and panel discussions.”
Wong said delegates from 10 countries representing leading companies and industries have confirmed their participation. “A total of 500 participants are expected to attend APOS 2009.”
This event is supported by MSC Malaysia and the government agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) as the host partner also co-chairs the summit steering committee with PIKOM & OM. Sponsors include CUSCAPI, FUJI Xerox, Setia Haruman, Kompakar, Kelly OCG and VADs.
Opportune time
“To date, international delegates from more than 10 countries have confirmed their attendance and the numbers are growing each day,” said APOS organising chairman, Bobby Varanasi.
“As the summit is the perfect venue for seeking new business opportunities and establishing networking, other than learning more of the intricacies of the challenging business environment, PIKOM wants to see a strong representation and participation from the Malaysian business community, the government sector, trade associations and chambers of commerce,” said Varanasi. “Such representation shall go a long way in paving a roadmap for the adoption of concerted sourcing strategies that will help create value for Malaysian business entities.”
Wong said the event also included World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) member company business opportunities, pre-event networking golf tournament, a customer-only networking session, a global services exhibition, the ‘Outsourcing Hall of Fame’ induction, a gala dinner and a post-event tour to MSC cyber cities.
“Current issues of the global financial crisis as well as challenges to the international business community will be highlighted at the summit. Implications and impacts of these challenges to outsourcing and also the economic implications of the economic climate are also on the agenda of APOS,” he said.
“This summit could not have come at a more opportune time as the presence of the large delegations and representatives of the global outsourcing community will help chart the way forward and seek ways to ride out the current global economic woes,” said Wong.
