US$194.6 million contract signed for wireless and service networks. By Carol Ko

HONG KONG, 19 NOVEMBER 2008 – China Telecom Corporation has today announced the signing of a RMB1.33 billion (about US$194.6 million) contract with ZTE to commence the first phase of a CDMA network construction project.

Under the agreement, ZTE, specialising in telecommunications equipment and network solutions, will provide China Telecom with CDMA wireless equipment, technical documentation and services worth RMB1.27 billion (US$185.8 million) and service network equipment, technical documentation and services valued at RMB60 million (about US$8.78 million). Other contracts for the construction of the core network and for the provision of additional telecom equipment are expected to be agreed upon by the two companies soon.

ZTE has the highest share from this bidding contract in terms newly-constructed base stations, newly-built carrier sectors, combined total of base stations, accumulated total of carrier sectors and total cost of provincial and city deployment. 

Over the last eight years, ZTE’s global CDMA subscriber capacity has reached 170 million.
