HONG KONG, 13 OCTOBER 2008 – Nanjing Broadcasting Group has just expanded their video-on-demand service for 280,000 subscribers of Jiangsu province cable television.
The new contract that Nanjing Broadcasting Group (Nanjing CATV) enters with digital media solution provider, DMX, involves the third-stage expansion of the video-on-demand (VOD) system from the initial 30,000 subscribers of Nanjing Broadcasting Group (Nanjing CATV) in Nanjing city, to cover 280,000 subscribers across Jiangsu, a province that carries a population of 75 million, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, 2007.
Jiangsu CATV is the fourth province-wide contract with DMX in 2008, after contract wins with Hubei, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia.
Jiangsu CATV
Jiangsu CATV was formed when Nanjing CATV was consolidated with 12 other city cable TV operators in Jiangsu province in April 2008. Following the consolidation, Jiangsu CATV became one of the largest cable TV operators in China with 13 million subscribers; of which more than 2 million subscribers have converted from analog to digital.
According to the digital media solution provider, DMX was selected by Jiangsu CATV mainly due to their “open-standard” architecture, which makes their proprietary software compatible with many brands of hardware and equipment that may be chosen by cable TV operators in China.
