KUALA LUMPUR, 3 NOVEMBER 2009 – Online shopping community eBay has partnered with Malaysian International Fashion Alliance (mifa) to promote local fashion labels to a global audience.
The online community eBay Malaysia has created a microsite where local designers who are taking part in this year’s Malaysia International Fashion Week (M-IFW), according to the company’s Southeast Asia director, Allis Ghim.
Ghim said shoppers can now log on to www.ebay.com.my/fashion and gain access to the latest designs from Asian Atelier by Alin Anuar, Eric Choong, Eclipse, Gallo by Thian, KN Key Ng, Nurita Harith, Stud, Tangoo, Tom Abang Saufi and William Liew.
“The inaugural collaboration with mifa is the latest effort by eBay Malaysia in forming partnerships with key industry participants to extend the benefits of e-commerce,” said Ghim. “With an apparel business approaching US$5 billion annually and 89 million active users worldwide, eBay is thrilled to present to the participating M-IFW ’09 designers a new and innovative sales channel in today’s competitive retail environment.”
“Through their online eBay stores with listings on international sites such as eBay.com, eBay.co.uk or eBay.com.au, the designers will be able to reach a broader international audience in a low cost and effective way,” said Ghim.
“M-IFW ’09 is aimed at elevating and positioning Malaysia as an influential player in the global fashion scene,” said mifa chief executive officer, Syeba Yip. “In recognition of the increasing importance and value that e-commerce brings, we are pleased to team up with eBay to provide a platform for top Malaysian designers to showcase their products and take their businesses online.”
Government agency Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) director of product section, Wan Norma Wan Daud, said: “The partnership between eBay and mifa is timely, particularly in the current economic climate. With eBay, some of Malaysia’s finest fashion labels will be able to gain international exposure while expanding their sales channels beyond Malaysia to the world.”
