MIS and AFR capture Sun Microsystems IT journalism awards By FBM Staff Writer
15 Apr 2009

SINGAPORE, 15 APRIL 2009 - Two Fairfax Business Media publications have again been recognised for excellence in technology journalism at the Australian 2008 Sun Microsystems IT Journalism Awards.

They are MIS magazine, the sister of MIS Asia, plus the Australian Financial Review. FBM Asia, based in Singapore, publishes MIS Asia, CIO Asia, Computerworld Singapore and Computerworld Malaysia magazines.

MIS was awarded Best Business Magazine while the AFR won for Best Business Technology Coverage and took home top honours as Best Title.

MIS magazine information editor Ben Woodhead received the award for Best Technology Industry Journalist while Mark Jones won Best Audio for The Scoop podcast.

The latest accolades follow an inaugural award presented by the Magazine Publishers’ Association of Singapore (MPAS) to CIO Asia magazine.

The winning CIO Asia magazine cover story was ‘The Femme Factor: Asia’s Enterprise IT Bucks the Trend’ published in September 2008. FBM Asia online editor Zafar Anjum wrote the article and the cover was designed by FBM Asia designer Neha Sane.

The cover story synopsis was: ‘Tradition would have it that information technology is a male-dominated industry and profession, particularly in the patriarchal society of some Asian countries. But examining the latest research provides a different story’.

FBM Asia director, Andrew Smart, said the latest awards demonstrated the high quality of journalism produced through Fairfax publications and digital properties.

“Our excellent journalistic standards have always been a key differentiator for Fairfax Business Media and it’s heartening that, once again, independent judges have acknowledged our publications,” Smart said.

“We appreciate this acknowledgement which stands as testimony to the professionalism of our team and the integrated media model which serves the enterprise IT community of the Asia Pacific.”
