HONG KONG, 16 DECEMBER 2008 – Mobile payment company Union Mobile Pay has recently deployed a new mobile commerce solution that offers personalised financial needs.

Union Mobile Pay (UMPay) is a mobile payment company established by China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) and China UnionPay. Currently, it is the only mobile payment platform with a direct connection to CMCC and covers 14 out of the 16 major banks in China.

Personalized financial needs

Offered by Motorola, the M-Wallet solution is said to provide an enhanced user interface with secured and reliable service as compared to existing technologies based on Short Message Service (SMS), Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP).

Consumers can personalise financial needs such as account inquiries, money transfers, bill payments, utility payments and e-ticketing on their mobile phones.

In addition to mobile banking, the platform also provides business-to-consumer solutions for merchants that include merchant membership cards, electronic couponing and prepaid cards.

The mobile commerce offering also includes a back-end management platform, which is part of the Motorola’s Service Delivery Framework called GAMA (Global Application Management Architecture), is interoperable with back-office network elements for OSS/BSS for mobile network operators, financial institutions and merchants.

First M-Commerce platform in China

The M-Wallet solution with K-Java technology for UMPay’s Mobile Wallet is Motorola’s first M-Commerce platform launched in China. In 2007 UMPay’s mobile payment platform reached 50 million registered users.

Besides bill settlements and fund transfers, the M-Wallet solution also allows CMCC’s subscribers to purchase lottery and tickets as well as participate in mobile games via an interactive interface.

“We are the leader in offering a mobile payment platform in China, and we see tremendous value in our relationship with Motorola to further strengthen our position in the market,” said Zhang Bin, managing director of UMPay.

“With Motorola’s expertise and experience in M-Commerce, we can create new solutions and services that address the needs of customers, bringing easy to use, secure and reliable services to them”, Zhang said.

Mobile users only need to download and install the M-Wallet application on their mobile phones that support Java technology, and register their banking accounts to the mobile phones via UMPay.
