SINGAPORE, 24 NOVEMBER 2009 -- The Nanhai People’s Government of Foshan, Guangdong province and IT provider Fujitsu have joined hands to invest and build Fujitsu’s first world-class data centre in China. The Fujitsu South China Data Centre will be built in the Guangdong high-tech service zone for financial institutions.

This agreement marks an extension of business collaboration between two partners who have been working together since 2007. This new initiative will be supported by the Guangdong Certification Authority (GDCA). This government body will work with Fujitsu Hong Kong and the Nanhai People’s Government of Foshan to build the new data centre and launch professional data centre services such as co-location services, data backup services and disaster preparedness services.

The Fujitsu South China Data Centre will provide IT support to small- and medium-sized enterprises in South China, especially those in the Pearl River Delta. This is also part of the company’s plan to expand its high-end data centre services to the rest of China.

Will begin operations from 2011

The project has been funded with US$29.5 million and companies estimate the data centre to cover around 10,000 sq m. Once the facility begins operations in early 2011, users will get a range of contracted services such as system application management and maintenance. IT support management, bank back-office service and data processing services are expected to increase efficiencies of organisations that choose to sign Fujitsu as their business partner.

In line with the ‘green’ mantra of today’s environment-conscious organisations, Fujitsu’s new data centre will meet stringent international standards of reliability, security, efficiency and eco-friendliness.

Michiyoshi Mazuka, chairman and president of Fujitsu, expressed its company’s pride at being chosen to co-operate with and secure support from the Nanhai People’s Government of Foshan, Guangdong Province to work on this world-class project.

Mazuka said this new facility will help the company enhance its global data centre and outsourcing services offerings to customers in China. Fujitsu aims to leverage its global expertise and experience for the purpose and hopes this centre will promote service industries in Guangdong to support the province’s long-term economic strategy.

According to Wang Ling, deputy mayor of Foshan, this agreement indicates great confidence of both parties in the economic development of Guangdong province.

Data centre service industry chain

The coming months and years will see further development of the Guangdong high-tech service zone for financial institutions. This will be accompanied with the growth of the cluster demand of informationalisation of government agencies and private businesses. These developments will lead to the demand of professional and high-end services from third parties.

This co-operation between the partners will help enhance the service environment of the Guangdong high-tech service zone for financial institutions. In addition to serving the South China market, this project will also help the development of a data centre service industry chain.

Yau Kan, regional CEO of Fujitsu South China and Hong Kong, noted that Nanhai authorities are most suited for this project because of their visionary leadership, strong capabilities, professional attitude and commitment to growth.

“We will continue to work closely with the authorities to bring the data centre to the mutual benefit of Fujitsu, Nanhai and Guangdong as a whole,” he added.
