KUALA LUMPUR, 22 NOVEMBER 2009 – Global industry organisation WiMAX Forum’s appointment of Malaysia’s WiMAX firm Packet One Networks (P1) onto its board will help shape the future of 4G in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, according to P1.
P1 chief executive officer Michael Lai said his appointment to the WiMAX Forum, which is an industry-led organisation formed to certify and promote broadband wireless products based on WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave access), would help Malaysia play a critical role in shaping the future of 4G wireless broadband.
“No other incumbent telecommunications firm in Malaysia, WiMAX or otherwise, has been bestowed such an important role within the telecommunications world,” said Lai.
"We are proud to welcome Michael to our board of directors,” said WiMAX Forum president and chairman, Ron Resnick. “Michael’s experience in the wireless industry brings a wealth of knowledge and invaluable insight to the board as we continue to create strategic programmes and initiatives that help fulfill the WiMAX Forum mission of providing WiMAX services to anyone, anywhere in the world.”
“In addition, this recent honour means that P1 is the first and only Malaysian representative on the board as well as the first and only representation for the region in shaping the future of WiMAX and 4G,” said P1’s Lai.
"This appointment is not just for P1, it is for Malaysia and the region,” added Lai. “We are extremely proud to be able to represent our country and our region in shaping the future of the 4G world.”
“This is truly an opportunity for us to realise our vision of broadband for all,” he said. “WiMAX will become the catalyst to connect the region to the world and allow us to be truly competitive.”
