HONG KONG, 18 NOVEMBER 2008 – Orient Overseas Container Line has recently topped its service-oriented architecture infrastructure with Oracle’s business process analysis suite to gain better control of its business process lifecycle.
Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), a Hong Kong-based international container transport and logistics service provider, has selected the Oracle Business Process Analysis (BPA) Suite to support its service-oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure. OOCL expects the Oracle BPA Suite, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, to improve collaboration between the shipping company’s IT department and its business analysts.
The new suite is said to provide a graphical modelling environment for defining process maps and detailed process flows comprising human, automated, rule and data elements. It is expected to enable OOCL to generate standard-based business process execution language (BPEL) definitions that can be deployed and executed on the Oracle BPEL Process Manager infrastructure.

Enhance front-line service
The new deployment aligns with OOCL's initiative to build “a next-generation customer service and shipment management platform” by fostering greater productivity, operational efficiency and innovation. Its goal is to revamp the logistics company’s systems using SOA software to cope with a deregulated and increasingly dynamic business environment.
OOCL's Business Processes & Systems (BPS) Group expects to enhance the pre-sales and post-sales service quality of its front-line staff with the adoption of Oracle’s BPA suite. With the new deployment, OOCL also expects to improve its cross-regional collaboration. Based on the country-specific regulatory and service requirements, the respective BPS teams in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific are able to leverage the existing process templates and perform further refinement and modification.
OOCL's existing enterprise system uses Oracle Database 10g as its data management foundation. Its next-generation enterprise SOA infrastructure runs on components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, including Oracle Application Server 10g, Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10g and Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher.
