SINGAPORE, JUNE 25, 2009—Hong Kong-based telecommunications provider PCCW Global has launched the TGN-Intra Asia Cable System (TGN-IA), an optical-fibre submarine cable connecting Points of Presence in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore, with branch extensions to the Philippines and Vietnam.

PCCW Global is a major stakeholder in the cable, which was initiated and operated by Tata Communications.

The two companies are expected to jointly offer network and other managed services for the region via the TGN-IA, and provide direct traffic routes between India and the connected countries.

“We are proud to have ownership of the TGN-Intra Cable System,” said Marc Halbfinger, CEO, PCCW Global. “This new cable will significantly increase our network’s capacity, providing our customers with greater flexibility and route diversity, and meeting the demand for Internet, TV broadcast, enterprise connectivity and applications, and all forms of data and voice services.”

The TGN-IA landed in Hong Kong on March 16, and is expected to begin operations in July.
