CHINA, 20 JANUARY 2010 – Johnny Ng has become the new general manager for Greater China and will manage the sales team for this region. In its new role, Ng will work towards driving further growth for multinational customers in the region.
Ng will be based in Hong Kong and manage Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. According to AT&T, he will report directly to the vice president of AT&T Asia Pacific, Bernard Yee.
Experience in China
Ng is seen to be suitable for this position in China as he has worked in the country before. He was one of the directors of board for Shanghai Symphony Telecom. This is an AT&T’s telecom services joint venture in China with China Telecom and Shanghai Information Investment. He has been holding this position since 2006.
Ng has held several important positions at AT&T previously and has been working for this telecom giant since 1995. Most recently, he served as AT&T Asia Pacific chief financial officer and successfully led his team to support the sales and operations in AT&T Asia Pacific and Japan.
He has achieved other impressive milestones in his career as well. He played an important role in completing the transition of the back-end support functions from IBM to AT&T in the Asia Pacific. This tremendously helped the acquisition of IBM global network operations back in 1999.
Focus on Greater China
Ng will focus on building AT&T's business in the Greater China region and Yee finds him to be just right for this job. He recognises Ng’s more than 20 years of management and financial expertise and his deep understanding of AT&T’s business in the region.
According to Yee, Greater China is a key region for AT&T in the Asia Pacific and with Ng leading the team, the company will continue its success march in the Greater China region.
"I am delighted to take on the role of the Greater China general manager at this exciting stage in both our development and the business growth. I am proud to lead our team of first-rate professionals in the Greater China region,” said Ng.
Ng replaces Sainti Li, who served as the Greater China general manager since 2005. Li is no longer with AT&T.
