Unity Solutions will help companies reduce costs: Maxis By AvantiKumar
10 Feb 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 FEBRUARY 2010 -- Malaysia's first mobile unified communications [UC] service—Unity Solutions—for enterprise and SMBs (small and medium businesses) has been launched, according to Malaysian communications firm Maxis.

Maxis chief operating officer Jean-Pascal van Overbeke said Unity Solutions, which is anchored on a unified digital platform, offers seamless connectivity across different systems, devices and applications. "This allows businesses to manage their employees and attend to customers anytime, anywhere."

"The solution comprises an online suite of business tools, which reduces dependency on conventional one-way communications equipment such as fax machines and desktop telephones, going an instantly unified and mobile step beyond to manage e-mails, calls, conferencing and other means of communication with clients or between employees," said van Overbeke.

“More than ever, businesses face the challenge of mobilising the workforce to keep up with customers’ demands, but lack the essential technologies to deliver real-time service on the go. Maxis Unity Solutions will offer these businesses the necessary tools to have a truly mobile workforce or to streamline and centralise communications—giving them the flexibility, freedom and control they require,” he said.

Mobile UC reduces infrastructure, operational costs

“It is an affordable and easy-to-use technology with four essential package choices," said van Overbeke. These are:

•Unity Conference – (1) SMS alerts and ability to call out to 10 persons at once (2) Instant recording delivery (3) a single, fixed conference charge of 58 US cents (RM2)
•Unity Hotline - 1700/017 number with 10 concurrent calls rerouted to 10 team members simultaneously or sequentially
•Unity One Number –  consolidating all calls to a 1700/017 number for a consistent business identity
•Unity Reception – intelligent call redirection to up to 50 phones without any set-up cost or need to hire a receptionist

"Mobile unified communications is a strong business tool because it reduces infrastructural and operational costs—leveraging on high mobile penetration to reduce traditional costs of business," he said. "In order for businesses to achieve greater output and quality, budgets need to be spent on best resources. Therefore Maxis as the leading communications provider is offering a scalable system built on a choice of advanced communications technologies, aimed at unifying all aspects of daily operations across distances, with immediacy and simplicity. All you really need is a mobile phone and a Unity Solutions account.”

“In the Asia Pacific excluding Japan, the top reason for implementing telecommuting for more than 40 per cent of the enterprises is the availability of new UC tools," said van Overbeke. "There is so much potential for industry players, especially the small-medium businesses which account for 99.2 per cent of all business establishments in Malaysia, to raise their game and be globally competitive,” he added.
