Malaysian F&B company thanks the mySAP solution it rolled out in 2002 for the RM400 million it made last year. By AvantiKumar

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 SEPTEMBER 2009—Malaysian food & beverage company Mamee-Double Decker (MDD) said that its use of an SAP business solution has helped to quadruple its revenue despite the poor economic climate.

Mamee-Double Decker Berhad managing director, Datuk Pang Tee Chew, said: “Since the rollout in 2002 of the mySAP business solution, the company’s revenues have quadrupled to US$115.3 [RM400] million by the end of 2008, and continues to grow despite the current economic climate.”

Pang attributed this growth to enhanced information management as well as the automation of business processes through the use of the SAP tool. “Dynamic access to timely and accurate information is paramount in not just weathering the hard economic conditions but harnessing them for significant growth, as Mamee has,” he said.

“During the 1997 Asian economic crisis, MDD realised that the demand for some of its products, such as noodles and snacks, grew and outperformed the rest, presenting a very strong category of revenue growth during economic downturns,” said Pang.

“Being a fast growing organisation with far-flung operational centres, multiple product lines and distribution channels we had to upgrade our IT implementation systems, in order to shorten decision making time and ensure better and more accurate decisions,” said Pang. “We put our trust in SAP and I credit the mySAP ERP solution to a great extent with helping us quadruple our revenues between 2002 and 2005.”

Mamee-Double Decker is a Malaysian food and beverage company, offering snacks and convenience foods. Incorporated in 1971, the company is currently listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, and sells its 50-strong product range to more than 70 countries.

‘Information Keeps Us Agile’

According to Pang, the SAP solution helped give insight into the market performance of each product. “This helps MDD to focus on immediate opportunities, as well as to clearly see where the revenue leaks are and stop them, while at the same time realising the changing trends in their customers’ needs and wants. All these have contributed very positively to MDD’s growth,” he said.

“Information keeps us agile and only then we are able to quickly react to opportunities that are present even during crises,” said Pang. “I’m glad we went with SAP, as we are now well-placed to grow further throughout the ongoing economic slowdown…We also plan to further implement an ERP and MRP solution to even better link up with our suppliers and distributors.”
