SINGAPORE, 18 JANUARY 2010 – The Singapore ministry of manpower’s (MOM) new employment pass services centre (EPSC) is using NEC Asia’s fingerprint biometric identification solutions.
The IT solutions and services provider will secure operations for this newly unveiled centre that is dedicated to foreign expatriates. You can come here to register and apply for new long-term pass (LTP) cards in an environment secured by NEC’s fingerprint biometric identification solutions.
These solutions were deployed at the new EPSC in accordance to the Singapore government’s plans focused at capturing fingerprint biometrics and photo-images of all foreigners residing in Singapore on a long-term basis.
Secure biometric features
EPSC will issue the new LTP cards, with secure biometric features, to employment pass and other pass holders. Those who already have a pass will be issued with new long-term pass cards when their passes are renewed.
NEC is suitable for this project with its three decades of experience in developing an efficient and accurate fingerprint identification technology. Empowered by a unique matching algorithm, this technology provides a low false accept and false reject rates and can quickly search the database for identification.
MOM’s centre is also using NEC’s automated arrival system (AAS). Self check-in kiosks and LCD display panels provide personalised service to applicants more efficiently and the centre hopes to serve about 800 registrants each day with the new e-appointment system.
BPO services
NEC Asia also provided total business processing outsourcing (BPO) services to MOM. The company helped in setting-up, maintaining and managing the EPSC for the registration of employment pass holders and their dependants.
Kiyofumi Kusaka, NEC Asia’s CEO said his company is pleased at being chosen by MOM and will now lend its world-class fingerprint biometrics solutions to the EPSC. This offering will help MOM to manage the influx of foreign talent more efficiently and effectively as Singapore continues to attract more foreign talent both in the present and in future.
EPSC will serve a broad group of long-term pass holders including employment pass holders; entrepass holders, personalised employment pass holders; training employment pass holders; work holiday pass holders; and dependant pass and long-term visit pass holders.
