HONG KONG, 29 JANUARY 2009 – China Telecom Shanghai will launch a new data centre in Shanghai next week to provide international wide-area ethernet service.
Under the agreement, NTT Communications (NTT) will assist fixed and mobile phone operator China Telecom Shanghai, a China Telecom Group subsidiary, to launch the Yuanqu Data Centre in Shanghai on 2 February.
According to NTT, an expertise in managed networks, the data centre will introduce global e-virtual local area network (VLAN) point of presence (POP) to provide international wide-area ethernet service. Global e-VLAN POP allows customers to connect their servers and systems to a high-speed backbone network directly on the premises of the data centre, thereby minimising connection costs.
Uninterrupted power supply
The rapid increase of global companies operating in China has raised the demand for high-quality, high-reliability data centres offering seamless connection to international wide-area networks, such as the new Yuanqu Data Centre.
Yuanqu Data Centre will provide co-location, managed operation (such as monitoring, maintenance, and security) and network, including NTT Com’s Arcstar global IP-virtual private network (VPN) and global e-VLAN services. Shanghai NTT Telecommunications Engineering will provide customer support in Japanese, Chinese and English on a 24x7 basis.
Facilities will be offered for commercial power supply, air-conditioning, uninterrupted power supply, and electricity generation and distribution, with no single point of failure, enabling a Tier 3 ranking by The Uptime Institute (TUI). The data centre will also use multiple carriers to provide backup connection and Internet access.
NTT Com assisted China Telecom Shanghai in both the design and construction of the data centre based on NTT Com’s high standards for excellent, uniformly global data centre services. These standards, which comprehensively cover a wide range of conditions amounting to some 130 items, are closely aligned with international standards including TIA, TUI and ASHRAE.
