KUALA LUMPUR, 20 JANUARY 2009 – The Asia Pacific Brands Foundation has recognised the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) as Malaysia’s best brand in exhibitions.

Asia Pacific Brand Foundation judges—comprising IT leaders, the media and analysts—said PIKOM won the Brand Laureate Award 2008 for best brand in Exhibition – ICT. This was based on actual market performance indicators, such as company and brand performance, as well as brand strategy, identity and culture.

According to Asia Pacific Brands Foundation chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Elyas Omar: “Each of these criteria is essential for a world-class exhibitor, but what distinguishes PIKOM is the ability to effectively integrate and combine these branding capabilities to create value for their visitors and exhibitors through PC Fair”.

The Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia is the association representing the information and communications technology (ICT) industry in Malaysia. Its membership currently stands at more than 900 comprising companies involved in a whole spectrum of ICT products and services, which commands 80 per cent of the total ICT trade in Malaysia.

Nation’s largest ICT fair

PIKOM PC Fair organising committee chairman Low Wai Sun said the Brand Laureate Award win comes following PIKOM’s historic year in organising PC Fair 2008. “More than 1.8 million people visited the three editions of PIKOM PC Fair 2008 that took place across 26 cities and towns in Malaysia. The nation’s largest ICT fair has grown by leaps and bounds netting visitors in the low tens of thousands in the mid-90s to the high hundreds of thousands today.”

“Targeted audiences are no longer only the IT-savvy in big cities but also the young and old from smaller cities within the country,” said Low. “The consistent huge turnouts and geographical expansion of PIKOM PC Fair events are a testimony to an increasing adoption of new ICT tools among Malaysian consumers.”

PIKOM Chairman David Wong Nan Fay said: “Being the voice of the industry means that PIKOM’s standard of services must be first-class and second-to-none. This is no mean feat, as it requires delivering services that match or live up to expectations of the industry. At the same time, we need to be heard. PIKOM’s latest award is recognition of its effective implementation and delivery of world-class exhibition services.”
