SINGAPORE, JUNE 19, 2009—Aggressively pursuing its latest stated objective of turning Singapore into a global media hub, the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) announced Thursday (June 18) that it had signed memoranda of understanding (MOU) with its counterparts from Brunei and Sweden.
The Singapore-Sweden MOU, signed on Monday (June 15), activates cooperation between technologists from the two countries on the development and commercialisation of new digital media technologies, applications, services and content, in their respective markets as well as across the world. "With Singapore's networks in the region and conducive business environment, we also welcome Swedish media companies to use Singapore as the test-bedding centre and regional launch pad for their business in Asia and beyond," said MDA CEO Dr Christopher Chia round the time of the signing ceremony.
On Thursday (June 18), Singapore formalised the MOU with Brunei that both parties hoped would drive high-value collaborative efforts in what an MDA press release referred to as "the new, converged media field." Dr Tan Chin Nam, who signed the MOU on behalf of the MDA as its chairman, set some targets for the media sector of Singapore and Brunei to hit together. "We hope to put in place a broad framework for our agencies," he said, "to share ideas and their experiences to meet the challenges of regulating emerging digital platforms and for companies in both countries to collaborate on different facets of the digital media value chain."
