HONG KONG, 27 NOVEMBER 2008 – Vietnam Datacommunications has recently deployed its first WiMAX trial network to test its next-generation wireless broadband services in the country’s major cities.
Vietnam Datacommunications is a member company of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, a leading Internet service provider in Vietnam.
Vietnam Datacommunications (VDC) provides Internet and data infrastructure and access services to the nation's residents and businesses, and acts as information technology consultant to other entities in the sector and other industries.
Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is Vietnam’s major state-owned post and telecommunications provider. It focuses on providing infrastructure and services to the nation's residents, managing logistics and sourcing, acting as consultant to other entities in the sector, and promoting postal and telecom industry development.
Commercial WiMAX trial
The launch of the WiMAX 802.16e technology follows an agreement signed between VDC and Motorola to commence a technical and commercial WiMAX trial in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City last year. Under the agreement, Motorola will install WiMAX diversity access points and more than 100 customer premises equipment in the nation’s two largest cities.
Motorola WiMAX 802.16e technology is said to enable VDC to reach a wider subscriber base in a timely and cost-effective manner, helping it to meet the growing demand for broadband services and other Internet protocol services such as voice over IP. WiMAX allows more people across the country access faster Internet connections and other advanced telecom services.
“Vietnam Datacommunications gains competitive advantage by being a pioneer in doing trials and launching new WiMAX services, which will allow us to capture market opportunities in the next generation wireless broadband space,” said Vu Hoang Lien, chief executive officer of VDC.
Motorola WiMAX solutions include an access point portfolio that provides networks for operators. The solutions leverage modem technology that supports advanced antenna algorithms for future technologies, helping operators reduce operating expenditure.
Motorola now has 24 contracts for commercial WiMAX networks in 19 countries around the world.
