The S$288 million (US$193 million) contract is for the Downtown Line By Jack Loo

SINGAPORE, 10 NOVEMBER 2008 - The Land Transport Authority of Singapore has awarded a S$288 million (US$193 million) contract to Westinghouse Brake & Signal Holdings to install a signal system on its new commuter train line.

Called Downtown Line, the new extension of Singapore’s existing train network is scheduled to be completed by 2016.

Westinghouse, part of the Invensys Rail Group, will be responsible for providing the signalling system and platform screen doors, including automatic train operation and automatic train supervision (ATS). The system will include the SIRIUS CBTC (communications-based train control) solution for automatic train control, WESTRACE electronic interlockings and a Systematics ATS.

Alistair McPhee, managing director of Westinghouse, said: "We have had a long and successful relationship with LTA spanning over 20 years and I am delighted to be able to maintain and build an ever stronger partnership with LTA through the award of this prestigious contract."
