KUALA LUMPUR, 15 JANUARY 2009 – Malaysian WiMAX firm Packet One Networks (P1) has invited Malaysians to drive rollout in the country.
A subsidiary of Green Packet Berhad, P1’s managing director Michael Lai said Malaysians could vote for P1 WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) coverage in their areas.
Lai said that communities that demonstrated strong demand could jump ahead of P1’s master rollout schedule and get their P1 W1MAX broadband service sooner.
“We believe that our customers should be involved in the development of the company and our business, which is why we have come up with the voting feature on our website—www.p1.com.my—to speed up the roll out process in the most popular areas,” he said.
Broadband essential facet of the economy
He said that since the launch of P1 W1MAX last August, the service is now available in selected parts of the Klang Valley, Johor and Kedah. The latest areas to have P1 W1MAX coverage this week include parts of Overseas Union Garden (more commonly known as OUG, in Old Klang Road), Bandar Kinrara, Kota Damansara and Shah Alam.
Lai added, “Broadband is an essential facet of a nation’s economy—look at where some of the region’s most developed nations such as South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong are today. Their household broadband penetration rates—according to second quarter 2008 Point Topic figures—cover 97 per cent, 89 per cent, and 86 per cent, respectively, shows us that being developed is more than just having world-class buildings, but also having the infrastructure to empower their residents to be more productive and efficient.”
