MoTe2 is a low-power material that can make transistors. FETs are composed of nanolayers that can be thickened to three or four. There has been a bipolar and P-mode field-effect transistors, along with a top-electrode field-effect transistor.
MoTe2 can be constructed in two forms, a 2H and 1T’ semiconductor.
MOSFETs may consist of MoTe2 layered over a membrane of liquid electrolyte or an ionic liquid. If the gate voltage drops below 2 volts the device is in electrostatic mode. The current drain-source ratio is dependent on the gate voltage. Above 2 volts the device moves into an intermediate area where the current is not increasing. If potassium atoms are added to the MoTe2 Layer, electrolysis can occur. A current higher than 3.5 volts is allowed through the gate. The lubricant molybdenum dilutride is good at working in vacuum at temperatures of up to 500°C with a coefficient friction lower than 0.1. But molybdenum dielenide is more friction-tolerant than molybdenum sulfide.
