What is hollow Glass Microsphere?
Microspheres are hollow glass microspheres with a range of diameters from 10 to 30 micrometers. Hollow spheres fill composite materials like lightweight concrete, syntactic elastomer and foam. The hollow spheres can be used to fill lightweight composite materials like syntactic polymer foam and lightweight concrete.
Hollow glass bead
This is a special type of glass bead that is less dense and has a lower thermal conductivity. It’s a new type of micron grade light material, developed in 1950s and 60s. Its primary component is borosilicate. The particle size of the material is 10250mm with a wall thickness 12mm. Hollow glass beads feature high compressive strengths, a high melting temperature, high resistivity and low thermal conductivity.
Hollow glass microspheres
Micro balloons (also known as bubbles) are formed from borosilicate and sodium salt glass mixtures. They have low density, and they’re resistant to heat and chemicals. The walls are made of
Glass microspheres
The spheres are typically rigid and about 10% thicker than their diameter. Spherical particles are available in a variety of densities ranging from 0.06g/c3 to 0.80g/c3, and particle sizes from 5um to180um. The compressive strength is determined by the thickness of the hollowed sphere. This, in turn, is determined by its density.

Hollow Glass Sphere Hollow Glass beads Product Performance:
Hollow glass microspheres consist of hollow glass microspheres at the micron level with a smoothed surface. It is made up of borosilicate, which is the main chemical component. The sphere is hollow and transparent under an electron microscope. Hollow glass beads possess low density, good strength, resistance to acid and alkali, low thermal conductivity and electrical insulation, among other qualities. These new materials are multifunctional, have high chemical stability and fluidity.

How to make microspheres of glass
1. Glass powder method
In the glass powder method, pre-prepared powdered glass containing SO3 is passed through the flame between temperatures of 1100-1500. Due to the increase in solubility, SO3 as well as other gases in the glass are released from the inside due to the change in atmosphere. A high temperature causes the glass powder to become spherical because of the surface tension. The spillage gases are sealed inside the spherical powder to form hollow glass beads.
2. Spray granulation is a method of granulation.
The spray granulation is done in advance using a solution of sodium silicate aqueous with auxiliary reagents (boric, urea and ammonium pentaborate), then the solution is injected into the dryer. After drying, it is expected to fall to a specific particle size, the final product will be a powder particle heating foam-forming glass beads.
3. Droplet Method
The liquid drop technique uses the same raw material as the spray-granulation method. The raw materials used are 500 copies each of sodium silicate (M(SiO2):M (Na2O =2) and 10% ammonium aqueous solution. The glass beads are then sprayed onto the spray dryer tower after being mixed.
4. Dry gel method
The alkyl sodium was added to dilute Hydrochloric Acid and decomposes with water. After gelation, gel was dried twice at 60°C and 150°C and then crushed in a ball mill. After grading was completed, dried gel powder was obtained. This was then foamed up in an electric vertical furnace at 1280.
Applications
Hollow Glass Beads Sphere Hollow Glass Beads
:
Hollow glass microspheres have many applications, including glass fiber reinforced products, composite foam, artificial wood, compound, atomic-ash, buoyancy in deep sea, bowling material, low-density concrete, sealing material and lightweight. They are also used by the resin industry for handicrafts such as wall plates, sandwich layers of lightweight packaging materials.
Hollow glass microspheres are also coated to provide a conductive surface. Conductive coatings optimized in thickness give spherical materials excellent shielding and conducting properties while maintaining weight savings. These conductive microbubbles can be used for a variety of applications including military, biotechnology, electronic, medical and other industries.
Hollow glass beads can reduce weight and improve sound insulation. The products are also resistant to cracking and have good reprocessing properties. It is used in the manufacture of composite materials like wood, engineering plastics, rubber, FRP and artificial marble.
