For very obvious reasons, the Galaxy S22 series and the oft-delayed S21 FE 5G have dominated Samsung's smartphone spotlight over the past few months. But it's also clear that the company plans to release several other Android phones in early 2022, the most…Interestingly, it seems to have just leaked two different colors.
In addition to showing factory CAD renderings of the black and (fuchsia-red) white versions of the upcoming Galaxy A33 5G from every Angle, Steve Hemmersteff, aka @onLeaks, has teamed up again with the folks at 91Mobile to show off some of the key specs and features of the mid-range phone.
Steve and the publication's reputation precedes them, which means everything we're about to discuss Samsung's Galaxy A33 5G has a high probability of ultimately succeeding.
A familiar notch design…And some are missing
While Samsung's S22 super-rear-facing camera looks are LG-inspired, that doesn't mean the tech giant's mid-range devices will see the same thing next year.
By 2021 (let alone 2022) standards, the Galaxy A33 5G could look as boring as a budget-friendly midsize car, with an old-fashioned U-notch, big chin, distinct side bezels, flat screen, and a…Not too bad a rectangular rear shot module with a total of four imaging sensors and an LED flash.
Overall, this is slightly more than its predecessor (which must be worthwhile), and its slightly smaller 6.4-inch display is squeezed into a more compact body that measures 159.7 mm in height (164.2 mm compared to galaxy A32 5 G), 74 mm in width (76.1), and 8.1 mm in depth (compared to 9.1).
Unfortunately, all that subtle design tinkering may prove to be a fool's errand because there's one thing many Android bargain-hunters might notice when looking at the 5G-enabled Galaxy A33.No no headphone jack on top…Or at the bottom, or somewhere else, a very strange and unusual omission for a non-flagship Samsung phone.
In case you're wondering, yes, the Galaxy A32 5G, A32, A52, A52 5G, A72, and even the relatively recently released A52s 5G all have a reliable old 3.5mm audio jack, although this isn't the newer Galaxy M52 5G.
Does this mean the end of the headphone jack for Samsung's most popular phones? We don't want to jump to conclusions, but as you may recall, the leaked Galaxy A53 5G render looks very similar to these from this perspective.
Specifications, features, and possible pricing
While there are still a lot of unanswered questions, the FHD+ resolution of the A33 5G 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen is rumored to be enough to make us expect a higher price point than the HD+ Galaxy A32 5G.
The 6.5-inch, mind you, generally applies for less than $300 in the US, and although we don't want to make any company predictions until we hear about the possible camera, battery, or processing power upgrades, we're pretty sure the Galaxy A33 5G can go with the best budget 5G phones under $400.
Samsung reportedly plans to produce up to 23 million A33 5G phones in 2022 to meet global demand. That's more than the Galaxy S22 and S22+ production targets combined, though a 4G LTE version of the Galaxy A13 and higher-end A53 5G could be more successful.
Historically, the Galaxy A33 5G will be available in January 2022, but surprisingly, there is reportedly no 4G LTE version this time around.
For now, almost everything else is up in the air, including which processor the Galaxy A32 5G will choose as its successor to MediaTek's Dimension 720. Qualcomm's mid-range chips don't seem to be competing against the backdrop of an ongoing shortage, but clearly, we'll just have to wait and see.
