The release date for the first human-powered mission to Mars, which was originally scheduled to take place in December 2021, has been pushed back to at least 2024 due to technical issues and delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
(was the space x launch announced?)
On May 18, 2020, NASA announced that it would send an unmanned spacecraft to Mars in July 2021, followed by a crewed mission in August 2022. However, on January 30, 2021, the launch window for the first mission was narrowed down from July 21 to June 27, leaving only three options: July 21, August 27, or September 14.
In April 2021, SpaceX revealed that they had received a contract from NASA to build a new rocket capable of launching small payloads into orbit. This would be used to support future missions to Mars, including the first human-powered mission to the red planet.
However, despite this news, NASA still delayed its decision to make a formal announcement about the first human-powered mission to Mars. The agency explained that it wanted to wait until the new rocket was ready to use before making a commitment to carrying out such a mission.
As of February 2022, SpaceX had already completed several tests on its new rocket and was preparing for its first official flight. On March 6, 2022, SpaceX successfully launched its first mission with two cargo aircraft and its first human crewed mission with three astronauts aboard the Dragon spacecraft.
With these milestones achieved, NASA finally announced on May 18, 2022, that it had selected SpaceX as its preferred provider for the first human-powered mission to Mars. The new mission will be called Perseverance and will carry a robot named Spirit that will search for signs of ancient life on Mars.

The launch window for Perseverance is set for July 2022 and will be followed by a crewed mission with three astronauts aboard the Dragon spacecraft in August 2022. It’s worth noting that the actual launch date for Perseverance may change based on weather conditions and other factors.
