Apple said in a blog post that a small number of devices manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021 could experience sound problems due to faulty components in the receiver module. It's worth noting that the free repair doesn't apply to iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models.
Apple says users who have a device that can't ignore the sound the receiving device makes when making or receiving a call may be eligible for free repairs. If you think this applies to you, there are several ways to get a free service. Users can use the link to find contacts with Authorized apple service providers, send services via email from Apple Tech support, or make an appointment directly at a retail store.
The news comes on the heels of a major and somewhat unexpected concession by Apple in its battle for independent technicians to fix its devices. In that case, Apple announced that it would create a new self-repair program in which apple would sell parts and tools needed for repairs to independent technicians and the general public, a long-standing demand of right-to-repair advocates. The move marks a shift for the company, which had previously kept a tight rein on repairs and imposed harsh penalties on technicians who used unapproved Apple products.
The first phase of the program will focus on "the most common service modules" such as displays, batteries, and cameras, with additional repair capabilities over the next year, Apple said in its statement.
Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer, said in a statement: "Giving our customers more options and making it easier for them to get genuine Apple parts if repairs are needed."A week ago, Apple announced it would release a software update that would make it easier for independent technicians to fix the iPhone 13 without breaking the FaceID feature.
