About Magnesium Difboride MgB2 Poudre:

Magnesium boride, or MgB2is a inorganic compound. The molecular formula of magnesium diboride is MgB2. Dark gray insoluble solid. It’s an ionic crystal with a hexagonal crystalline structure. This intercalated compound has alternating layers of boron and magnesium. This compound is of interest because it is superconducting at 39 K(-234degC).In terms of composition, MgB2 is markedly different from most transition-metal-based cryogenic superconductors.

Magnesium boride was known by scientists for more than 50 years. But no one ever tested its superconductivity, or whether it would conduct electricity flawlessly without resistance if cooled down to temperatures near absolute zero. It was only in 2001 that Jun Akimitsu, of Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo, announced that he had discovered that magnesium Diboride becomes superconducting below 39 degrees Kelvin. (-389 degrees Fahrenheit). This temperature is nearly twice that of the current intermetallic conducting materials. It was a shock to the world when the announcement came out. Scientists from around the world were scrambling for ways to duplicate and confirm the Japanese results.

Magnesium diboride can be converted to a superconductor by a temperature just below 40K. (-233 deg. C). Its transition is almost twice as high as other superconductors. The actual operating temperature of this material is between 20-30K. You can reach this temperature by using liquid neon, hydrogen or a freezer with a closed circuit. These methods can be cheaper and easier than using liquid helium in the industry to cool niobium alloys (4K). After being doped with impurities such as carbon, magnesium boride maintains superconductivity just as well or even better as niobium when a magnetic current or field is present.

Magnesium is an ionic substance with hexagonal structure. Magnesium diboride, at an absolute temperature of about 40K (equivalent -233), will transform into a high-temperature superconductor. The actual operating temperature of the superconductor is between 20 and 30K. For cooling, liquid neon or liquid hydrogen can be used. Closed-cycle refrigerators are also an option. The methods used to cool the alloy are much simpler and cheaper than those currently being used by industry to cool niobium. If it is doped in with carbon or impurities or magnesium diboride and placed in a magnet field or when a current is passed, then the ability to maintain superconductivity is the same as or better than that of niobium.

What is the production process of Magnesium Diaboride MgB2 Poudre ?

The MgB2 preparation is mainly a reaction synthesis using magnesium powder and mixed boron.

MgB2 can be obtained by mixing 99.9% boron powder and 99% magnesium powder in a 1:2 ratio, pressing them into small balls, then heating the mixture under high-pressure nitrogen.

A common method for synthesizing MgB2 is to put amorphous boron and magnesium into a refractory container (such a tantalum), seal it, then pump the mixture through a quartz tube, then sinter at 700950°C for 14 hour.

Application of Magnesium MgB2 Diboride Powder ?

Magnesium-diboride superconductor, is the primary application. Magnesium diboride can be used in superconducting magnets and power transmission lines, as well as sensitive magnetic field detectors.

Magnesium diboride attracts the attention of materials. Research focuses on the synthesis of superconducting materials for industrial use, electrical conductivity, at room temperature.

MgB2 and its composite materials are more readily sintered and densed than TiB2 and their electrical conductivity meets the requirements for aluminum electrolysis. MgB2 as well as its composite materials will likely be widely used for cathode materials in aluminum electrolysis.

Propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics. Unlike boron which only burns partially through layers of glass oxide that block oxygen diffusion in mixtures with oxygen or oxidizers, magnesium diboride completely burns. It has therefore been suggested that magnesium boride could be used as fuel in ramjets. MgB2 has also been suggested for use in explosives and propellants.

Conditions for storage of Magnesium Diboride (MgB2) powder

This product must be sealed, stored in an air-tight chamber that is cool and dry and kept away from the air to avoid moisture reunion. Moisture reunion will negatively affect the dispersion characteristics and the resultant use. It is important to avoid stress.
