Insoluble in water, inorganic acids and carbonate. But soluble with sodium sulfide and alkali-metal hydroxides. To be poisonous.
It is also called sodium thioarsenite and is available as the macerate NaASS2. The thioarsenite acids is very unstable and decomposes easily.
Arsenic 3 sulfide
This semiconductor has a direct bandgap value of 2.7 eV. Its wide bandgap allows it to be infrared-transparent between 620nm & 11mm.
As2S3 can be found both in crystalline or amorphous states. Both forms consist of polymeric structures made up of triangular As(III), cone-shaped centers, connected by centers sulfide. The sulfide centers are double coordinated with two arsenic-atoms. In its crystalline form, this compound has a sheet structure with ruffles. The van der Waals force is responsible for the bonding between sheets. Crystalline forms can be found in most geological samples.

The cross-linking is more intense, even though the lamellarity of the structure is not present.

By fusing elements at 390degC, amorphous As2S3 can be obtained. Rapid cooling causes the reaction to turn into glass. A chemical equation can be used for the reaction:

Water precipitation
As2S3 can be formed when H2S is added to an aqueous As(III). This reaction was previously used to analyze and measure arsenic. As2S3 will precipitate even in 6M HCl. AS2S3 has a very low solubility, and is therefore not toxic.

The properties of arsenic triosulfide are useful for separating and identifying arsenic compound. It has many other applications.
The arsenic triosulfide compound can be used for a variety of purposes, including as a medicine, pigment and reducing agent.
As2S3’s high refractive indices of 2.45, and its higher Knoop hardness compared to organic photoresists have been used in the fabrication of photonics crystals with full bandgaps. AS2S3 is a photoresist that can be used for 3D nanostructures thanks to advances in laser plate making technologies such as 3D laser engraving (3D DWL) and chemical wet-etching.
AS2S3 and AS4S4 are being studied as treatment for acute promyelocytic (APL).
It is used as chalcogenide in infrared optical systems. Transparent between 620nm and 11mm.
The glass made of arsenic is less toxic because it’s more resistant to oxidation.
