Amazon’s New World was one of the top-grossing games on Steam this year

Valve has again revealed this year's highest-grossing games on Steam. The sixth annual Top Grossing Games list divides the top 100 games into several categories, with games in each category ranked randomly. In the platinum category, 12 games made the most money.

There are several free games at the top of the chart, as Steam has included microtransactions and paid extensions. Platinum level games are dominated by older games, including Apex Legends, BATTLEground, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dead by Daylight, Destiny 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Dota 2, and Grand Theft Auto V.
This is the sixth year in a row that Dota 2, CS: GO and Grand Theft Auto v have made it into the top tier. Pubg battlegrounds and Rainbow Six Siege are both fifth entries. Destiny 2, meanwhile, has been a platinum-rated game every year since it arrived on Steam in 2019.
Battle Royale games Naraka: Bladepoint and Battlefield 2042 are among four games to make the top 12 this year. Vilhelm is a survival sandbox game made by just five people, and one of the most profitable. The same goes for New World, which shows that after years of trial and error, Amazon has finally made a hit.
New entrants to The second group of 12 competitions are FIFA 22, Back 4 Blood, Forza Horizon 5 and It Takes Two, which won Match of The Year at The Game Awards. Older games in this section include Final Fantasy XIV Online (due to server overload, Square Enix has temporarily suspended sales), Red Dead Redemption 2, Rust, Sea of Thieves, Warframe, The Elder Scrolls Online, War Thunder, and Forza Horizon 4.
The Silver edition includes 2021 releases of Halo Infinity, Pioneer, Resident Evil, and Mass Effect Legends Edition. December's CyberPunk 2077, The SIMS 4, Monster Hunter: World and the robot-plagued Team Fortress 2 all fall into this category.
Some key findings include EA bringing its games back to Steam in 2019 with four titles in the top 24, including three new releases: Apex Legends, Battlefield 2042, FIFA 22, and It Takes Two. Microsoft also has several games at the top, though they are all available on PC Game Pass. Forza Horizon 5 and its predecessor, as well as Sea of Thieves, are in the Gold category. Even though Halo Unlimited's multiplayer is free and the paid campaign only launched a week before Steam stopped tracking chart revenue, it managed to make it into the Silver chart.
Many of those games — including New Worlds, Battlefield 2042, Mass Effect: Legends Edition, and Sea of Thieves — were discounted during Steam's winter sale. Cyberpunk 2077, Walheim, and Back 4 Blood are also in the auction, which runs until Jan. 5.
