Not only have family cars, and public buses gradually moved towards electrification, but engineering shovel trucks have also slowly moved away from traditional fossil fuels. Construction equipment company Case (CASE) recently launched the world's first all-electric backhoe loader 580 EV. The 580 EV is also called "Project Zeus" inside. It is the first pure electric shovel built by CASE. It is powered by a 480V, 90kWh lithium battery. Although this is far from the world's largest 600kWh, CASE states that a full charge can last 8 hours of daily work.
Batteries provide power to the powertrain and hydraulic motors, respectively, which produces the same hydraulic breakout force as diesel-powered machines, and improves performance when the loader and powertrain are operated simultaneously. Although the workload of each application will be different, considering reducing / eliminating the consumption of diesel, oil, diesel waste fluid, it is estimated that 580 EV can save the fleet up to 90% of annual vehicle service and maintenance costs.
Case built the first factory-integrated backhoe loader in 1957 and has been at the forefront of backhoe loader innovation, said Leandro Lecheta, head of CNH Industries' North American Construction Equipment Division. "580 EV is an important step in our commitment to sustainable development. It is the development of earthmoving equipment and efficient innovations that bring real savings and competitive advantages to aircraft owners."
