Germanium Disulfide Properties:
Germanium disulfide (white powder) is easy to dissolve in water and in concentrated hydrochloric acids. This unstable metal is easy to sublimate and oxidize at high temperatures. At the same time, it dissociates in humid air or an inert environment. Germanium disulfide results from the reaction between germanium powder, sulfur vapor, or a mixture gas of sulfur and hydrogen sulfide. This is an intermediate product of Germanium metallurgy.
Germanium dioxide can be used as a transparent medium for microwave radiation. It does not absorb any microwave radiation. The reaction produces sodium sulfide (sulfur element), and germanium diulfide which are highly sensitive to microwave radiation. In microwave radiation used for volatilization or vulcanization, only one sulfide is able to selectively absorb microwave radiation. This results in instantaneous high temperatures that cause germanium to react with sulfur. Germanium is made from germanium sulfide. Then, the germanium-sulfide continues to absorb microwave radio waves and reaches the temperatures of sublimation or volatilization.
