Calcium stearate lubricant is a water-insoluble metallic soap class surfactant. Generally, it is made as an aqueous liquid dispersion. Preparation of calcium stearate dispersion with low viscosity

Calcium stearate dispersion with low viscosity was prepared by an improved emulsifying process with stearic acid and calcium hydroxide as the primary raw materials. Single-factor tests studied the effects of dosage of the additive, variety, dosage, and composition of the emulsifier, the mass ratio of calcium hydroxide to stearic acid, and reaction time on dispersion properties, especially on the viscosity. Experimental results showed that the suitable mass ratio of the calcium hydroxide to stearic acid is 1.15∶1; using octyl phenol ethoxylate(OP-10) and oleoyl alcohol ethoxylate(O-20) at a mass ratio of 3∶1 as blend emulsifier with a dosage of 8%(mass of the blend emulsifier to the assembly of the total primary raw materials); dosage of the additive is 1.9%(w). At a reaction temperature of 90 ℃ for 1.5 h, a product dispersion with a solid content of 50%(w) at a dispersion level of 2 grade and viscosity of 59.7 mPa·s can be obtained.
