Samsung has resisted launching new OLED TVs for nearly a decade after pulling out of the OLED TV business. It even launched a marketing campaign targeting LG's OLED TVs and OLED panels for aging factors. However, the company seems to have finally come to its senses and may launch a new OLED TV next year.
According to a report from South Korea, Samsung will launch OLED TVs early next year (possibly at CES 2022) and in The European and North American markets in the first half of 2022. The company may also launch such products in other Asian markets, but has yet to confirm the topic. The company has reportedly completed quality tests on TVS made using LG Display OLED panels.
Samsung's cheap OLED TVs can use LG's OLED panels
The company is expected to use OLED panels from Samsung Display, but it can't produce enough of them. Accordingly, Samsung Electronics has decided to purchase OLED panels from LG Display and Samsung Display.LG's OLED panels could end up in Samsung's OLED TVs, according to the report.
DSCC, a display Supply Chain consultancy, estimates that LG can produce 8m OLED glasses a year. There are rumors that Samsung could buy 1.5 million to 2 million of these screens for its OLED TVs.The company can still use the 8K MiniED TV as its flagship model. Samsung's entire TV lineup consists of a combination of QLED, MinLED, OLED, and MicroLED TVs, and consumers will have plenty to choose from if they want to buy a Samsung TV.
In the coming years, the company aims to produce smaller sizes of MicroLED TVS as the flagship of its TV offerings, offering the contrast and perfect black of OLED TVs, as well as the reliability and high brightness of LCD TVs.However, making tiny LED TVs at a smaller size and higher resolution on a scale is very challenging.
