Silicon nitride powder
An inorganic substance that is chemically named Si3N4. It’s a structural ceramic material that is important for durability, lubricity and wear resistance.
Silicon Nitride Properties:
You can find silicon nitride in powder form. It comes in three colors: gray, white and off-white. Silicon nitride powder is highly insoluble at high temperatures, has no melting temperature, and resists high-temperature creep. It has a load softening value of over 1800 degC without the use of a binder.
There are two types of silicon nitride crystal structures: a or b. They both have hexagonal crystals. It’s melting temperature in atmosphere is 1800°C and in nitrogen 110 MPa at 1850°C. The thermal expansion coefficient of Si3N4 powder is low and it exhibits high thermal conductivity. This makes it resistant to heat shock.
Other than hydrofluoric acid or hot phosphoric acids, silicon nitride doesn’t react with any other inorganic substances and is highly resistant to corrosion.
Silicon Nitride Application:
It is used for making bearings, turbine blades. Seal rings, molds permanent, and other components. The heating surfaces of engine components can be made from silicon nitride clays which can resist high temperatures and transfer heat poorly. This can improve the engine’s quality and fuel efficiency.
As a high-grade, refractory material, silicon nitride can be used. SI3N4 SIC refractory, for example, is used as a blast furnace body, and in other parts with sic. It is also used when combined with BN (SI3N4BN material) to create a horizontal continuous casting separation ring. SI3N4BN series horizontal continuously casting separation ring with uniform structure is a fine-structure ceramic materials that has high mechanical and structural strength.
Silicon nitride ceramic materials are suitable for use in high temperature engineering components, advanced materials in metallurgical industries, anticorrosion components and sealing parts in chemical industry. They can also be used to make tools and cutting tools for the machining sector.
You can use silicon nitride in solar cells. Additionally, you can use silicon nitride in gas turbines, plane engines, electric furnaces, and other ultra-high temperature applications.
