What precautions should be taken during fumed silica

What is Fumed silica?

Fumed silica, or pyrogenic silica, is an amorphous, synthetic silica produced by vapor phase hydrolysis of chlorosilanes in a hydrogen-oxygen flame. Primary particles are fused into branched, three-dimensional secondary particles or aggregates in the flame process. Silica fume is added to Portland cement concrete to improve its properties, particularly its compressive strength, bond strength, and abrasion resistance. The silica particles then alter the surface of its host material resulting in a hydrophobic surface. Aggregated fumed silica can be applied to large surfaces to render them hydrophobic. They enable silicone to be used safely in ovens and direct contact with food. And we also offer a further special feature: AEROSIL® fumed silica enables you to manufacture colorless, highly transparent silicone rubber used in medical applications.

Is silica a fire retardant?

Hydrated silica has a long history of safe use in food products. It is a natural and non-toxic flame retardant in our Vegan Latex Mattress. Unidentified silica fume is more expensive because of its larger size and higher transportation costs. The main advantage of densified silica fume is to save on transportation costs. Crystalline silica is found in concrete, masonry, and rock materials. When these materials are made into a speck of fine dust and suspended in the air, breathing in these fine particles can produce lung damage. Silicosis can be disabling and may lead to death. Results indicate that steam-cured silica-fume concrete met all FDOT requirements for the 12, 18, and 24 h curing periods. All steam-cured samples demonstrated excellent durability up to 1 year of age. It was recommended that FDOT allow 12 h steam curing for concrete with silica fume.

What precautions should be taken during fumed silica?

Use suitable respiratory protective devices when high concentrations are present. Eye Protection Wear safety glasses. Wear protective gloves. Body Protection Protective work clothing. Acute silicosis: This can occur after only weeks or months of exposure to very high levels of crystalline silica. Death occurs within months. The following describes the NIOSH policy for respiratory protection against airborne exposures to crystalline silica. NIOSH recommends using half-facepiece particulate respirators with N95 or better filters for airborne exposure to crystalline silica at concentrations less than or equal to 0.5 mg/m3. Use personal protective equipment, such as a respirator and coveralls, that keeps the dust off the clothes you wear at home. Respirators may still be required if the above controls don't adequately reduce exposure levels.

Price of Fumed silica

Fumed silica particle size and purity will affect the product's Price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of Fumed silica. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The Price of Fumed silica is on our company's official website.
